The Ganga, elder daughter of Himavan and Mena, springs from the foot of Vishnu, winds three times around Brahma's city on the summit of Mount Meru in the Himalayas, flows over the sky in the form of the Milky Way (Mandakini), and then falls down to earth from the matted locks of Siva.

Located in the North Zone, the conference includes 9 universities spread over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The cities of Allahabad, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Lucknow, Rewa and Varanasi are directly involved in the competition, with Ghazipur, Rae Bareli and Sultanpur as neutral sites.

In the Ganga Conference, astro-turf fields are located at Lucknow and Varanasi. Doordarshan studios are located at Lucknow.

Watch out for intra-state rivals Lucknow University vs. University of Allahabad, and inter-state rivals University of Allahabad vs. Avadesh Pratap Singh University. Lucknow University and University of Allahabad have the potential to achieve National Rankings.
